Being a Candle or a Mirror


I have often thought about my contribution to the journey of those around me. And I have broadly put it in two buckets: I call the first bucket a 'Candle' and the second one a 'Mirror'.

As you would have guessed, a candle burns on its own and spreads its light in all directions. Similarly, when I am contributing with something that I might have discovered or found within my own experience, like an idea, or a word of encouragement, or in more tangible terms, contributing with my time and money, I feel like the candle.

On the other hand, a mirror does not have its own light but when placed near a candle, it reflects the same light. In the same way, when I share a borrowed idea, or pass on a message or a video that I have received from someone else, further on to someone else who might find it useful, I feel like the mirror.

As we go about our daily lives, we have the opportunity to be either the candle or the mirror… they both spread the light and remove the darkness!
