Charge kitna hai? (How much charge is there?)

As I was planning to head out to watch a movie with the family, I heard myself ask "Charge kitna hai?" or "How much charge is there?"

Usually, when we ask this question we are referring to the level of battery charge remaining in our phone. But this question reminded me of a conversation we were having in one of our reading groups earlier last week. A friend shared his insight: "I can gauge whether or not I am attached to a particular outcome when I notice the intensity of the "charge" with which I am engaging with a person or situation. And only I can truly know how much charge is there."

The higher the charge, the more attached I am to a particular outcome. And as a corollary, the lower the charge, the less attached I am to a particular outcome. And by extension, the less likely I am to suffer when the outcome is not favorable according to me.

I applied this insight to my various life situations:

What is the level of "charge" in me, when I make a request to my spouse or my daughter? Am I elated when they accept my request? Am I upset when they don't?

...When I share an observation with a leader I am coaching? Am I excited when the leader agrees with my observation? Am I disappointed when I miss the mark?

...When I make a pitch presentation with an organization leader for a potential coaching engagement? Am I feeling my heart race when they say they are interested? Do I feel my energy drain out when they are not?

...When I am teaching my daughters how to drive? When I am thinking whether they will get their license before the end of the their summer-break or not?

Wow!… thanks dost, for sharing this powerful insight. It truly works. And like you said, only I can truly know the level of charge inside me.

So folks, the next time, don't just check the level of charge in your phone battery,

Remember to check the "charge" within you!

Really enjoyed this, Anuj, and the “charge” metaphor is a very useful pointer.

One small thought: I wonder if there’s a subtle risk of turning the charge into a method.. “high charge means high attachment, low charge means low attachment.” Then the mind can start monitoring itself again (duality).

Perhaps the charge itself is already enough. Just seeing it fully, without trying to measure, reduce, or interpret it, may reveal the attachment directly.

Beautiful reflection as always.
